Engaging and well-written, it is one of those books you have trouble putting down.
You see and live the through the eyes of a teenager the tough years of WWII in Northern Italy under Mussolini, the Nazis and the chaos that followed as Italy was freed by the allies. It was fascinating how he describes the different routes helping Jews walk across the Alps to make it to Switzerland.
At times, when he describes how close he got to getting caught while spying, the book becomes a real thriller and love story at the same time.
I very much liked the way the author captures the complexity of the situation as Italy collapsed. Really worth the read.
